Bolivia 2020
The Bolivia project is focused on connecting rural Bolivian communities through sustainable infrastructure. The DEID team will be designing a footbridge to be implemented in the summer of 2020. Geographic isolation is a main cause of poverty worldwide, and flooding due to heavy rainfall is a main cause of such isolation. This separation hinders a community’s economic growth, access to education and access to healthcare. Footbridges have an unparalleled impact in community development worldwide in limiting isolation and providing safe access to solutions.
This academic year, the DEID Bolivia team is focused on designing a footbridge for their assigned site and fundraising for the trip. The Bolivia project operates under the supervision of the Engineers in Action (EIA) Bridge Program. EIA provides guidelines and sample designs for the team to follow and tracks the team’s progress through close communication with the project manager. DEID has worked with EIA on several projects, including footbridge projects in Bolivia in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
