Alex Kumar

“I’m excited to challenge myself, push myself outside my comfort zone, and get to help other people – all at the same time. Also, I’ve never had the opportunity to build a full-size, functioning bridge before.”

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Year: 2023
Fundraising Goal: $1500

Jack Lawter

“Hi! I’m Jack Lawter and I’m a first year at Duke University. Here on campus I’m involved in Club Outing, DEID, and Blue Devils vs. Cancer. This summer, I am going with DEID on a trip to Bolivia to assist in constructing a bridge for the locals to use in their food gathering. Without this bridge, they would be deprived of a steady source of food due to the high water levels of the surrounding rivers. I am really excited to engage with the Bolivians and become close to all my friends over our 2 months together!”

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Graduation Year: 2023
Fundraising Goal: $1000

Dylan Cai

“I have a lot of interest in becoming an engineer, and helping a developing community in South America aligns with my goal to improve other peoples’ lives through innovation and problem solving.”

Major: Biomedical Engineering
Graduation Year: 2023
Fundraising Goal: $1000

Alex Fine

“I got involved in DEID to have a more impactful experience as an engineering student at Duke. I had the privilege of constructing a vehicular bridge in Uganda last summer and I am excited to be leading the trip to Bolivia this summer alongside Engineers in Action! DEID is an organization that means a lot to me, and without outside contributions, none of our trips would be possible. Any donation is meaningful and will go a long way!”

Major: Civil Engineering with Global Development Engineering Certificate
Graduation Year: 2022
Fundraising Goal: $2500+
