Jan Hua-Henning is an Assistant Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at Duke Kunshan University. He is passionate about discovering the world of technology and risk throughout history. He leads the research project Global Histories of Risk (GLOHRI) and will teach HIST223 Global Histories of Risk and Disaster in Spring 2025. As co-lead of the Archives and History Initiative, he seeks to bring together faculty and students who wish to learn about historical research, stories, and archives.

Joseph Giacomelli is an Assistant Professor of Environmental History at DKU. He focuses mostly on environmental history and the history of science, but loves learning about other topics too. His book Uncertain Climes: Debating Climate Change in Gilded-Age America (University of Chicago Press, 2023) examined climate politics in the late ninetenth-century US. At the AHI, he is excited to talk to students and faculty who share a passion for reading primary sources and history books.

Student Worker:
Disty is a senior at Duke Kunshan University majoring in Arts and Media. She is interested in Southeast Asian art history, heritage studies, as well as the digital humanities. In the past, she has done research with the Digital Art History & Visual Cultures Research Lab at Duke and the Rhodes Information Initiative. In her free time, she enjoys biking, reading, and watching YouTube.
