Forum and Exhibition on Multimodality in Multilingual and Intercultural Education
多语跨文化教育中的多模态主题论坛暨学生作品展
Nov. 1st, 2024
Online and In-Person at Duke Kunshan University
The one-day event will consist of invited talks, workshop(s), lightning talks, and student work exhibition, with the aim to foster collaboration, share best teaching practices, generate new research ideas, and build a scholarly community among researcher-practitioners of multilingual and intercultural education at Duke Kunshan University (DKU), Duke University, Wuhan University (WHU), The Ohio State University (OSU), and University of Sydney.
The theme of this hybrid forum and exhibition centers around multimodality as an approach to reconceptualize multilingual and intercultural education, and to investigate the translingual and intercultural experiences and diverse identities of human subjects in globalized higher education contexts.
Exhibition
Based on a longitudinal study on visual narratives of international students’ multilingual identity transformation, the exhibition showcases (international) student-created self-portraits and other visual representations (e.g., drawings, collage, paintings) collected throughout their first 14-week experience at DKU and in China, along with their own commentaries on the symbolism behind their artwork and creative choices.
