Concert of electronic music/soundscapes
The event will be a composite showcase of artistic works. On the one hand, there will be the premiere of a piece for guzheng and electronics that will be specifically written for this occasion. On the other end, the concert will give exposure to the final projects of the courseĀ MA222: Electronic Sound.
The composition will reflect on the relationship between acoustic and electronic sound. It will explore, by means of sound manipulation, the possibilities hidden in the sounds of guzheng. Excerpts of the acoustic part of the composition will be recorded prior to the concert, then treated electronically to create a fantastic soundscape around the instrument, which will extend its expressive possibilities during the performance. Sound manipulations will primarily be done by slowing down the recorded sounds to transform the attack of the notes into sounds of longer durations, thus allowing the perception of the richness intrinsic to those sounds. On the other hand, some recorded passages will be reassembled in order to create new combinations of sounds
The works of students will be the result of their learning during the course, which will give them some foundations to think about sound in artistic terms and will introduce them to techniques of synthesis and recording/sequencing. These short works will reflect a wide variety of approaches, which will be reflective of the multiplicity of possibilities and artistic products that the digital manipulation of sound allows.
