This Wednesday, hosted by Professor Erin Wilkerson, the Film Society will present the last movie News from Home (1976) before Chinese new year!!! Directed by Chantal Akerman, it is a poem with quiet, radical meditation on distance, memory, and belonging. Filmed in New York yet anchored by a mother’s letters from Belgium, the film unfolds through long, static takes that resist narrative and demand attention. Stripped of drama and excess, it transforms everyday streets into spaces of longing and estrangement. A landmark of feminist and avant-garde cinema, News from Home invites us to listen closely — to voices that linger, to absences that speak, and to cinema as an act of patience and intimacy……
