Jorge Sampaoli
Jorge Sampaoli is Argentina’s third manager in less than a year, following the retirement of successful head man Alejandro Sabella, and for good reason. The pressures of the Argentina job are unmatched. A side with the likes of Sergio Agüero, Ángel Di María, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Romero – oh, and did I mention Lionel Messi, only one of the greatest to ever play the sport – should not underwhelm as often as Argentina has in recent years. Sampoli’s reign has gotten off to an inauspicious start, with the squad struggling mightily to qualify by a thread for Russia. He is a proven commodity, though, the engineer of the dominant Chilean triumph in the 2015 Copa América. With most of the aforementioned senior players likely approaching their final World Cup, it is critical that Sampaoli deliver a product equal to the team’s potential.
