Dare to Dream is a fantastic three-part HBO documentary that chronicles the journey of the US Women’s National Team and the obstacles they had to overcome to revolutionize the landscape of women’s soccer in the United States.
The documentary revolves around a group of five players who have become known as the 91ers. Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Christine Lilly, Joy Fawcett and Brandi Chastain are seen as the pioneers and faces of women’s soccer in the US. Without them the US Women’s National Team wouldn’t be what it is today.
Thanks for posting this! There’s also a great piece at Sports Illustrated that talks about the 1991 Women’s World Cup, arguing that Michelle Aker’s goal in that tournament was one of the most important in the history of U.S. soccer: http://www.si.com/longform/soccer-goals/goal4.html.
