Tournament Guide: Northern Ireland

It was a cold February evening in 1882 when the national football team of Ireland made its debut. Unfortunately, the result was a sobering one, as Ireland lost 0-13 in a friendly with England. One week later, they played against Wales, where a late equalizer became the nation’s first ever goal. Thus began the long, underwhelming history of Irish football.

134 years later, and Northern Ireland has finally qualified for its first ever European Championship.
