What apartment complex should I live in?
While we cannot endorse specific apartment complexes, we’re happy to point you to helpful tools to guide your search:
- Duke Off-Campus Housing website: Find available rentals, connect with other Duke students, and explore neighborhood options.
- Research safety: Use the Community Crime Map to learn more about safety in specific neighborhoods.
- Additional tips:
- Check reviews on ApartmentRatings.com or Google.
- Talk with current Duke students to hear their experiences.
- Ask apartment management about safety features like gated access, security cameras, and staffing.
What classes should I enroll in, and when is the registration deadline?
Great question! While our team focuses on non-academic support, your academic department or program will be reaching out with detailed guidance on class registration, course selection, and timelines. Please watch your email in the coming weeks—they’ll ensure you have the information you need.
How do I find an on-campus job?
While there are various on-campus jobs available, we encourage you not to rely on campus employment to meet your financial needs. Positions are limited, and we do not place students in specific roles.
Given the intensity of your program, we’ve found students are most successful when limiting work to no more than 10 hours per week.
If you’re interested in exploring options, visit our employment resource page.
Professionalism matters! Please apply thoughtfully. We recommend against frequently following up or visiting offices in person to ask about job openings.
I’m anxious to get involved. Are there opportunities for incoming students?
Absolutely! Getting involved is a great way to build community, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact.
The Pratt School of Engineering offers opportunities like the Student Advisory Board and Pratt Peers.
To express your interest in getting involved in one of these organizations, fill out the interest forms at: Student Advisory Board or Pratt Peers.
