Course Description/Synopsis (from DukeHub)

Organizations exist to satisfy the needs of a market.  From services to manufacturing to digital, a product is provided to customers that they are willing to expend value to satisfy a need.  Supply Chains exist within and between organizations to coordinate, facilitate, manage, and execute organizational assets to fulfill this fundamental objective.  Without an efficient supply chain, organizations struggle at best or disappear at worst.

Manufacturing Operations is the transformational role of the supply chain — receiving raw materials and transforming them into viable products for a market while ensuring the best cost for maximum profit potential.  The flow of materials to and from manufacturing, the consolidation of parts for assembly, the converting of materials into profitable designs, the assurance of process (and product) quality, enabling a safe environment for workers, coordinating to meet plans & schedules – all striving to satisfy customer demand at the best possible cost.  Execution is the key to success.
