No-shows are not allowed.  Failure to comply with the attendance policy and/or excessive absences will result in dismissal from the program which may significantly impact your grade. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • What if I didn’t finish a class assignment and need to skip tutoring?
That would be considered an unexcused absence. Missing tutoring because you need to study for a test or complete an assignment is not allowed.  While academics should be your first priority, we expect you to plan ahead and organize your time so that you can balance your multiple commitments.
  • What if I have an emergency and am unable to contact my teacher and the program to report an absence?
You are expected to notify your teacher before you are expected at tutoring regardless of the emergency or illness.  We strongly encourage you to save all relevant contact information in your phone to make it easy to contact your program coordinator and your site.  If you, despite your best efforts, are unable to contact the program coordinator and your site before your absence, we expect you to contact us as soon as possible.  We will require justification for the late notification of absence.  Further action will be determined on a case by case basis.
  • Who do I tell if I plan to be absent?
You will need to email your host teacher or site program coordinator and PfS Staff. You will receive host teacher/coordinator emails at the site selection meeting or can access them on the PfS website. Remember, it is only an excused absence if you have a class commitment or you are sick.
  • Can I make up a missed session?
Yes, if approved by the host teacher or community partner. Some programs do not have the flexibility for a makeup session, so you should keep that in mind. However, please make it a priority to attend the required sessions you originally signed up for. Teachers and students count on you to be there when you said you would be. Do not abuse this courtesy that some sites may extend to you.
  • What if I have met the session minimum before the last day of tutoring?
Teachers and program coordinators receive a calendar from PfS and they have planned for you to be at their site up until that very last day of tutoring. We also expect that you attend tutoring through the PfS designated last day of tutoring. If we notice otherwise, we will notify your professor that you did not attend through the last day.
