There is an iPad at the front desk. Sign in there, then head to the classroom/ gym.

Site specific orientation

Ms.Bailey will hold a virtual orientation before volunteering begins. 

Dress code

  • Avoid clothing that contains profanity or depictions of violence.
  • Lower items of clothing should be “fingertip length”.
  • Tops should not be cropped or low cut.

Sample volunteer tasks

  • Helping out during the preprogramming time block (3:00-4:15pm) i.e. playing games with students, interacting with them in the gym, and general support.

  • Assisted in group activities including gym time and hot cocoa+ reading.
  • Assisted kids with a presentation on wind energy.
  • Assisted teachers during led activities, such as games and crafts.
  • Helped kids with reading and their menu food truck project.
  • Continued to help sixth graders with their projects for Hispanic Heritage Month, also helped with supplies preparation.
  • Continued our book club for “It’s the End of the World and I’m in my Bathing Suit.” 
  • During this session, I facilitated different group activities including the starting Uno card game with students, as well as the tote bag craft activity.

  • Today we created a character analysis for our main character Eddie in book club. We discussed his strengths weaknesses, personality, relationships, environment, the author’s intent in creating his character, his actions, his struggles, etc. The students were asked to think critically about the text and produced some great, thoughtful ideas about what they were reading.
  • Today we did practice with math concepts like place value, expanded form, and underlined value. The kids received mini notebooks where they answered questions written on math place cards. We rotated the cards around, so each student got the chance to answer each question. As they completed their work, Miss Anjane and I checked over their answers and corrected mistakes in their thinking.
  • Today we learned about what ADHD is, what different presentations of ADHD exist, and how ADHD can be a challenge for kids’ learning. Today’s class took form of a video/round table discussion afterwards.
  • Worked on a division escape room and finished with reading.
  • We played in the gym, then we did a lesson on the book they have been reading.
  • Worked with 6th graders on their projects for Hispanic Heritage Month.
  • Played wiffle ball with the kids and read chapters of a book in a group.
  • Helped the 5th graders with homework on their laptops and answered any questions they had.

  • Assisted the 4th grade teacher instructing children about ADHD due to it being ADHD awareness month.
  • Helped 4th grade students with their literature timeline packet and lined them up for dismissal.
  • I helped kids with math homework and helped form paragraphs for 2nd and 3rd graders.
  • I helped the 4th graders with their math (i.e., multiplication) games and supervised them as they watched the animated movie “Vivo.”

  • I played with the students in the gymnasium and then I helped them with projects and worksheets in the classroom.
