If a student has taken courses at another university that are substantially similar to a MEM core course, they may apply for a core course waiver/exemption.  Obtaining a course exemption means that the student will have fulfilled the degree requirements for that class; however, it does not decrease the number of courses the student must complete to graduate.  A total of eight courses still must be completed at Duke to earn the Master of Engineering Management degree.  Simply put, an additional technical elective may be taken in place of the exempted core course.

Completed request forms should be submitted to the MEM Program Director for review.  Approval of a core course exemption is not guaranteed.
