Red Team Grant Review
“Red Team” (noun): “Read teaming is a process for testing cybersecurity effectiveness where ethical hackers conduct a simulated and nondestructive cyberattack” (Wikipedia)
We are piloting a grant review service for DMC faculty, providing an ethical, simulated, and non-destructive review of your latest grant application before it hits study section, where adjective 3 is not guaranteed.
Submissions will be accepted through Google Forms here: DMC Red Team Review Submission Form
Because we feel that this service would be best deployed for late-stage grants, we require that you have an SPS record # – that is, you have submitted this to your departmental grant once and received a due date.
Based on this date, we will require documents be submitted to “Red Team” a minimum of 6-weeks prior. Reviewers will have 2 weeks to review, and can provide either written or verbal feedback (based on your preference).
See example timeline schematic below: *Note – these dates are only example dates!
At this time:
– We will be flexible to review either specific aims pages, or full grants – depending on the need.
– Review may be via suggested reviewers, or a small standing ad hoc review panel, with at least 2 reviews per grant.
– Reviews will likely primarily be at the conceptual level (i.e., not proofreading, formatting, though suggestions may be freely given).
– Future iterations will likely include trainee grants – requiring a first pass by their PI.
Our current plan is to offer statistical and methodological review in addition to a full conceptual review for each submission!
If you are interested in being a reviewer (small stipend provided), please contact Julia.oh@duke.edu and cc Cynthia.wicker@duke.edu.
