The matching process is now currently underway. On November 2nd, all applicants will  be  notified of  their  status,  and  those  selected  will  receive  their  mentor/project match.

QISP Info Sessions: 9/29 @ Fuqua, 9/30 @ Med School

Interested in working on innovative and interdisciplinary solutions to improve health care delivery at Duke? As a member of the Quality & Innovation Scholars Program (QISP) you can do just that!  If you weren’t able to attend the IHI Kickoff event on 9/24, but still want to learn more about this year’s upcoming QISP, we’ll be holding an informal info sessions at Fuqua and the School of Medicine. We’ll give a quick rundown of what it means to be a QI Scholar in this 6-month immersion experience… and if that’s not enticing enough, there will probably be cookies.

Fuqua Session: Tuesday, September 29th 6-6:30pm, Lilly Classroom (1st Level), Fuqua

Medical School Session: Wednesday, September 30th, 6:30-7pm, Classroom 3, TSCHE

Annual Kickoff Event 9/24 6pm: Chancellor Washington

What: Dr. A. Eugene Washington– the new Chancellor for Health Affairs, and President & CEO of Duke University Health System– will speak on the challenges we face as a health system and what we can do about it! Q&A moderated by Dr. Jon Bae will follow.

When: Thursday, September 24th, 6-7pm

Where: 4th Floor Lobby, TSCHE, Duke School of Medicine

Outside Event: Duke Health Innovation Jam 9/15

DIHI Innovation Jam 2015The Duke Institute for Health Innovation is hosting the inaugural Duke Health Innovation Jam on Tuesday, September 15 from 8:30am to 12:30pm. The Innovation Jam is a unique Shark Tank style event in which competitors have a real shot at winning actual investment dollars toward development of their health innovation ideas.

On behalf of Duke IHI Open School, we would like to invite you to a talk by Victor Dzau, MD, the Chancellor for Health Affairs at Duke University, and President and CEO of Duke University Health System.

As the leader of this medical institution, Dr. Dzau’s main interest is “in moving health care through innovation, discovery, translation, and service” while striving to put patients first. In what is sure to be a thought-provoking talk, the Chancellor will discuss the impending changes in US health care and his vision regarding what health systems such as Duke can do to bend the cost curve while improving health care quality.

Improving Hospital Clinical Quality and Safety — Bimal Shah, MD, MBA

 

  • What: Dr. Bimal Shah, Department of Cardiology — Hospital System Quality Improvement Efforts
  • When: Wednesday, April 4th, 5:30-6:30pm
  • Where: Conference Room 114, Chancellor’s Office (Duke South Green Zone)

In addition to his clinical responsibilities as a non-invasive cardiologist, Dr. Shah runs numerous research programs in health services research, clinical trials, and registry analyses. He has published extensively in health care finance and delivery, cardiovascular outcomes, and quality assessment in cardiac care. Dr. Shah will review hospital system quality improvement efforts and discuss the current state of variation in clinical quality and safety.
