E-Mail Migration Instructions
Duke University now provides one centralized e-mail system for the University called Office 365. Installation instructions for configuring Apple Mail are available below.
The new system will provide a number of benefits, including:
- Increased mailbox size (from 2 GB to 50 GB for university Exchange users)
- Unified email and calendaring across the university and health system
- Improved web interface
- Modern calendaring system

OSX- Apple Mail 10.9.2 (Mavericks)
Important Note: DO NOT Delete your existing account before continuing
There is always a fear of being unable to access to our e-mail while, during, or immediately after a migration. However should you have trouble setting up your Apple Mail to connect to your new Office 365 account, you can access your e-mail through the online web account, aka webmail. All of your e-mail will be available using whatever browser you prefer. Please contact the IT Service Desk should you need help with setting up access to your Office 365 account with Apple Mail.

To setup your new e-mail account follow the instructions below:
Important Note: AGAIN- DO NOT Delete your existing account before continuing
- Open Apple Mail
- Go to the Apple Menu
- Select Mail then Accounts
Select Exchange
- Enter your Full Name
- Enter your e-mail address in the form of your firstname.lastname@duke.edu
- Enter your Duke NetID password
Select Continue
You will see an error stating “The Internet Accounts couldn’t log into the Exchange server” like the one below. This is supposed to happen
Select Continue
- Enter Duke in the Description
- Enter your NetID@duke.edu for your User Name
- Your NetID password should already be entered
- Enter outlook.office365.com for the Server Address
Select Continue
You should see the Account Summary letting you know your account was successfully found on the server
Select Continue
By Default all the apps to use with your Exchange account should be selected.
Select Done
You now will see a Summary of your Internet accounts, you can close this window by selecting the red button in the top left hand corner
Once your account has been successfully setup you no longer need to have your old Duke Mail account setup, You can select this account and delete it at this time.
- Do not worry all of this mail has migrated to your new Exchange account see the below, your account will look like this with your old mail folders listed under the DukeMail_0365 folder
