Ustekinumab as Induction and Maintenance Therapy for Ulcerative Colitis.

Authors of this trial evaluated ustekinumab as 8-week induction therapy and 44-week maintenance therapy in patients with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis.
Zachary Spiritos, MD will discuss the Hepatology article:
Identifying optimal candidates for early TIPS among patients with cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding: a multicentre observational study.

Authors performed this large, multicentre, observational study to assess the effects of early TIPS (compared with standard treatment) on the mortality, failure to control acute bleeding or rebleeding, new or worsening ascites and overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE) among patients with cirrhosis and AVB who were stratified by current available risk stratification systems.

Gabe will present the hot topic, a hepatology paper from NEJM by Nevens et al. A Placebo-Controlled Trial of Obeticholic Acid in Primary Biliary Cholangitis. NEJM. 375: 631-643. PMID 27532829.
