Mike Heacock will be presenting the new CDC guidelines for HCV screening in baby boomers. The CDC fact sheet provides the new recommendations and their press release is available.
Related to this topic, we wanted to review some relevant viral hepatitis literature. A few months ago, we had posted these links to the blog, but we did not review them in depth at journal club. The Annals of Internal Medicine published a paper on mortality related to viral hepatitis that Cindy reviewed briefly (PMID 22351712) and also a paper on the cost of screening for HCV (PMID 22056542). A more recent paper reviewed the presence of comorbidities in patients with HCV, and how these often need to be addressed in order to treat patients who screen positive for HCV (PMID 22494445).

Helen Fasanya-Uptagraft will present a paper on Imaging in IBD by Fiorino et al (PMID 21484958).
Nancy McGreal will present a paper on IBD risk factors by Khalili et al at Harvard (PMID 22619368).
