GI Journal Club June 17th 2014

Our last GI journal club of 2013-2014 will be this Tuesday, June 17th at 5PM in the Tyor Conference room.

Helen Fasanya-Uptagraft has selected the recent NEJM paper by Chey et al: “Naloxegol for opioid-induced constipation in patients with noncancer pain.” e-pub ahead of print. 2014. PMID 24896818.

Matt Rein will present a recent paper from the Annals of Internal Medicine by van Hess et al: “Should CRC screening be considered in elderly persons without previous screening.” 160: 750-759. 2014.  PMID 24887616.

Hassan Dakik will present the Gastroenterology paper by Ordas et al entitled “Accuracy of magnetic resonance enterography in assessing response to therapy and mucosal healing in patients with Crohn’s disease” 146: 374-382. 2014. PMID 24177375.

May 27, 2014 GI Journal Club Articles Posted

Please do plan on joining us for GI Journal Club May 27th at 5PM in the Tyor Conference Room. We have a very interesting set of papers to discuss. There’s something for everyone in this set of papers, so you won’t want to miss this Journal Club.

Josh Spaete will present the paper on colon cancer screening from Kaiser by Doug Corley et al. Adenoma detection rate and risk of colorectal cancer and death. NEJM. 370: 1298-306. 2014. PMID 24693890.

Majed El Zouhairi will present the advanced endoscopy paper from by Trikudanathan et al. Diagnostic yield of bile duct brushings for cholangiocarcinoma in primary sclerosing cholangitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis. GIE. 79: 783-9.2014. PMID 24140129.

Matt Kappus will present the hot topic, a paper the fellows asked us to review in journal club, by Phoa et al from Jacques Bergmans’s group. Radiofrequency ablation vs endoscopic surveillance for patients with Barrett esophagus and low-grade dysplasia. JAMA. 311: 1209-1217. 2014. PMID 2468102.

Andrew Muir has also very graciously agreed to present a brief review of the recent articles published this week (May 22, 2014 issue) in NEJM on HCV therapy: 1) ABT-450/r-ombitasvir and dasabuvir with ribavirin for HCV with cirrhosis 2) ABT-450/r-ombitasvir and dasabuvir with or without ribavirin for HCV and 3) Sososbuvir and ribavirin in HCV genotypes 2 and 3.
