Here are the articles with links for our upcoming GI journal club scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Please do note that March is colon cancer awareness month, and we have two featured papers on colon cancer screening.
Dr. Helen Fasanya-Uptagraft will be presenting the first paper, a recent manuscript from NEJM by Zauber et al entitled: Colonic polypectomy and long-term prevention of colorectal-cancer deaths. The clinical relevance goes without saying, and this paper has generated significant press. Don’t miss the discussion at journal club! You can find the link to the paper here: PMID 22356322.
The second colon cancer screening paper will be from the same issue of NEJM by Quintero et al for the COLONPREV investigators entitled: Colonoscopy versus Fecal Immunochemical Testing in Colorectal-Cancer Screening. As you may know, Dr. Deborah Fisher will be involved with the upcoming FIT trial through the VA. Come to journal club to learn what all the buzz is about and find the paper here: PMID 22356323.
The hot topic will be presented by Dr. Travis Cox this month from Am J Gastro. The paper is by Khanna et al and is entitled: The epidemiology of community-acquired Clostridium difficile infection: a population-based study. It can be found using this link: PMID 22108454.
For the biliary article, Dr. Jay Pyrtle will be presenting a paper by Cerefice et al from GIE entitled: Complex biliary stones: treatment with removable self-expandable metal stents: a new approach (with videos). Find the link here: PMID 21872710.
