Please plan on joining us for the next GI journal club on Tuesday, February 28th. As always, journal club works best when we have engaged participation from the fellows and faculty, so please do preview the articles and plan to attend.
Helen Fasanya-Uptagraft will be presenting the advanced therapeutics/ imaging paper: A pilot study on transrectsl endoscopic ultrasound elastography in inflammatory bowel disease by Rustemovic et al PMID 22014337.
Cristal Brown will be presenting the hepatology paper: Pentoxifylline improves nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: A randomized placebo-controlled trial by Zein et al, PMID 21748765. There is an accompanying editorial, PMID 22045667.
Cindy Moylan will be presenting a different hepatology paper: The increasing burden of mortality from viral hepatitis in the US between 1999 and 2007 by Ly et al, PMID 22351712.
Cindy also wanted to provide links to two other recent hepatology papers that may be of interest. We may not have time to discuss them in depth, but please do take note: The cost-effectiveness of birth-cohort screening for hepatitis C antibody in u.s. Primary care settings. By Rein DB et al PMID 22056542. AND New protease inhibitors for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C: a cost-effectiveness analysis by Liu et al PMID 22351713.
Lisa Jones will be presenting the (health policy) hot topic, an area she thought would be of particular interest given potential cuts for Medicare funding for hospital re-admissions (for pneumonia, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease starting in 2013). Are funding cuts for re-admissions for liver disease in the future? See the paper entitled Hospital readmissions among patients with decompensated cirrhosis by Volk et al, PMID 21931378.
See you on Tuesday, Feb 28th 2012!
