Connect to the Duke Network from Off-Campus using the Virtual Private Network (VPN)

A virtual private network (VPN) allows for a secure connection into a private network over the public network. Although you are connecting from a remote location, the VPN makes the connection work as if you were on a direct connection into our network.

Depending on the configuration of your home computer, you may be able to login to http://portal.duke.edu using your NetID and have the Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client automatically installed.  However, due to recent security updates to Java and Apple’s OS X the automatic setup usually fails.  Below are links to manually download and install the software from OIT’s site license software site.

General questions about the VPN software can be directed to the University’s OIT by calling 919-684-2200.
