CAN YOU TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY (CYTTS) is a multimedia interactive exhibition featuring a collection of work focused on “Sherly” as an artistic character. This character embodies an imaginative childlike narrative style and nostalgic cute aesthetics to explore subject matters including gender representation, generational confusion, and the exploration of selfidentity.

Using an expanded cinema format, this exhibition will combine digital moving images, props, and computational technologies to create an immersive experience that is simultaneously magical and unsettling. The combination of different mediums and technologies will assist with the multidimensional narrative storytelling in the discovery of identity. It will also include content discussing the deconstruction of social gender, race, and identity norms.

Sherly Fan is a multi-media artist interested in identity exploration, social commentary, and experimentation on new paths for storytelling. As an experimental documentary artist with a fashion background, Sherly creates artwork that deconstructs social norms and encourages self-healing
