The Outreach Design Education (ODE) Summer Design Camp is an immersive biomedical engineering design experience that aims to introduce students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to engineering design and foster an appreciation for STEM. Students will participate in biomedical innovation through engineering design. This focus on design, rather than conceptual or abstract learning exercises, gives students the practical skills to identify problems and develop solutions. With these skills, students can transform an idea from a far-off concept into a tangible product.
Participants will learn about the engineering design process and use it to solve real-world problems through a series of design workshops, labs, and innovation sessions. On Monday through Thursday each week, students will participate in a series of design workshops, labs, lectures, guest speakers, and innovation sessions focused on engineering design. Participants will quickly begin applying conceptual knowledge to real-world problems–they will use the engineering design process to uncover biomedical needs and create prototype biomedical devices.
Program activities include:
- Hands-on workshops, labs and innovation sessions
- Lectures with ODE mentors and guest speakers
The program lasts 5 weeks over the summer and is offered annually.
