A Bigger Shib: Using Federated Authentication on Your Web Resources

Shibboleth is a powerful web-based tool for authentication that is widely deployed at Duke and at many other universities around the nation. At Duke, “Shib” is primarily used for the local university community, but it can also be used to leverage authentication services at other InCommon institutions, making scholarly collaborations easier and more secure. This workshop goes through the mechanics of setting up Shibboleth and harnessing it’s “federation” features for inter-institutional use of Duke services. The workshop showcases work done with the support the the National Science Foundation to broaden the range of web-based tools and increase the power of trust-based technologies like Shibboleth.
