Get to Know Amelia Rodarte! [October 2024]

Title: Electronic Resources Management Specialist

Library/Department: Electronic Resources & Serials Acquisitions

Location: Smith Warehouse

Years at Duke: 1.5 (plus an AUXS internship a few years ago)

In a nutshell, what do you do at Duke University Libraries?

I am the ERM Specialist for databases. I manage database access and troubleshooting for DUL’s online research databases. Since Alma, I have been focused on data cleanup and learning new workflows.

If you had to pick one thing, what’s the best part of your job so far?

Focusing on just one format area (databases) allows me to develop a deep expertise in these resources and maintain a higher level of quality than if I was managing all e-resource access. I’m grateful for the size and experience of the ERM Team!

What is the best thing you’ve read/watched/listened to recently?

I’ve been enjoying two shows each week this fall: 1) Survivor (been a fan since I was a kid) and 2) My Brilliant Friend (Italian drama on HBO Max). As much as I love to see literary fiction turned into a prestige drama, I also really love reality TV.

What do you like most about living in The Triangle?

I feel lucky to live and work in an area with so many colleges and universities. It’s great to have colleagues and friends at different higher ed institutions in the area.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Life outside of work is busy with our toddler (2.5) and our two pets. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking, listening to podcasts, and occasionally finding time for video games.
