Flor Herrera-Picasso serves as the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Casa Azul de Wilson.  She is the daughter of Mexican immigrants and was born and raised in  Wilson, NC. As the eldest of ten siblings, Flor holds the distinction of being the first in her family to attend college. She earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Textile and Apparel Design from North Carolina State University.  After spending four years working in the fashion industry in New York City, Flor returned to her hometown during the pandemic, driven by a profound sense of responsibility to support her community amid challenging social and political climates. Together with her sister, Elizabeth, she co-founded Casa Azul de Wilson, the first and only Latinx-led and Latinx-serving nonprofit organization in Wilson, NC.

Casa Azul focuses on four core areas: educational equity, culture, civic engagement, and community development. Although initially established to serve the Wilson County community, Casa Azul’s impact has grown significantly. Today, the organization’s work reaches more than 20 counties across North Carolina, reflecting its expanding influence and commitment to advancing opportunities for Latinx communities throughout the state.
