There can never be too many shortcuts! When you are navigating in especially larger data tables in Excel, short cuts can save time in navigating, and also make you more efficient. One of the most basic navigation tools that is often missed is just Vertical and Horizontal navigation in a single column or a row. There are simple mouse techniques that can help in navigating to the Top or Bottom most cell in a Column, or the Left or Right most cell in a Row.
Vertical and Horizontal Navigation in a Table Column/Row:
- Double-click in the top edge of a cell to go to the top-most cell in the column
- Double-click in the bottom edge of a cell to go to the bottom-most cell in the column
- Double-click on the left edge of a cell to go to the left-most cell in the row
- Double-click on the right edge of a cell to go to the right-most cell in the row
Bonus:
How to select an entire column of data:
- Select the top cell of the data in the column
- Press CTRL + SHIFT + Down Arrow
NOTE: It is also important to observe that there should not be any blank rows or columns in a data table, and also consolidate the data under single column headings. This method of structuring data tables is also key for other tools & features to work properly in Excel, such as Sorting, Filtering and creating Pivot Tables.
