Congratulations, Dr. Franz, Full Professor!

The amazing Dr. Katherine Franz has won the title of Full Professor at Duke University!  Franz Lab Motorsports (in other words, Katherine Franz’s research group at Duke University) celebrated and strengthened their teamwork this weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway!  Dr. Franz graciously treated her “team” to a few laps around the track in a real race car!  Thanks Dr. Franz!  This was an experience of a lifetime!  We are grateful to be part of your team!  “Check your blind spots!”

The Franz Lab lab holds a special place in our hearts! Dr. Haas did her graduate work with Dr. Franz and our labs now collaborate of copper trafficking work. According to Dr. Haas, the Franz lab is the best place to go if you want an awesome boss, great lab mates, unlimited opportunities for collaborative science, and you want to drive race cars in your free time!

Summer researchers on whitewater!

The Haas Lab (Chemistry) and the Majetic Lab (Biology) are collaborating on their common interest in Epigenetics & Phenotypic Plasticity this summer!  Why not spend a little time together on the whitewater!WP_20150607_002

Summer Research 2015! A new chapter opens!

The Haas Lab has gained two new awesome members!  We have big plans for these ladies in science.  Among our lab goals for the summer:  Do some experiments, present our science, and finish this beaker of candy!!

Dr. Haas, Kati Shaw, and Jennie Connell pose with the UPLC-PDA-MS and a giant beaker of candy. (**Disclaimer, the beaker of candy enters the lab only for photo opportunities!)

Erin’s got Plans!

When we were at the Penn State Bioionrganic Chemistry Workshop, Erin & I went on a hike with some super scientists, including Dean Wilcox, Molly Carpenter from Dartmouth College. I'm pretty sure this is when Erin ACTUALLY decided she was going to Dartmouth for graduate school.

It seemed like an ordinary day.  Erin popped by my office and casually mentioned that she won the NSF GRF.  What?! We both started screaming and jumping around in my office until the entire department knew what had happened.  I had a feeling she would win.  Its nice to be right some times.  😉
