Participation in Bass Connections

A total of 1,417 members of the Duke community took part in 70 project teams and 45 team-based summer research projects in 2020-2021.

In addition, many more students and faculty were involved in 57 one-semester Bass Connections courses.

Beyond the Duke community, 15 graduate students and 8 undergraduates from other colleges and universities joined our teams. And 45 of our 70 year-long project teams had one or more formal community partners or clients, totaling 104 external affiliates.

From Fall 2013 through Spring 2021, 4,587 members of the Duke community have taken part in 631 Bass Connections year-long project teams and summer research projects.

Many students and faculty participate over multiple years, but the figures above count each individual only once.

Most teams work with partners outside Duke, including nonprofits, universities, school systems, hospitals, government agencies and private companies. Teams have worked with 430 external partners in 40 countries on 5 continents in addition to cities and towns in 20 states plus the District of Columbia.
