Kaylie Flores

I am a first-year Ph.D. student in the Biology department, and I am broadly interested in the epigenetics behind vein patterning in the wing discs of butterflies!

Before coming to Duke, I received my BA at the University of Colorado Boulder in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, where I completed an honors thesis on the evolution of the genes involved in scale and scute development in catfishes. After graduation, I worked as a Research Assistant at Colorado State University on the characterization of genes thought to be important during the molt cycle of crustaceans.

Outside of the lab, I enjoy dancing, reading, and trying new kinds of art!
