Ranjay Jayadev - Research Scientist
Ranjay was born and raised in Singapore. He graduated with a B.S. in Life Sciences from the National University of Singapore, where he studied alpha-actinin dynamics during mammalian cytokinesis in Maki Murata-Hori’s laboratory. Post-graduation, he worked with Snezhana Oliferenko, gaining an appreciation for fission yeast genetics. Ranjay entered Duke through the Cell & Molecular Biology program and affiliated with the Molecular Cancer Biology program. For his PhD, he discovered distinct integrin-based mechanisms that recruit type IV collagen to basement membranes.  As a postdoctoral associate, Ranjay collaborated with Rachel Lennon’s laboratory to define the constitution of human and animal basement membranes. Ranjay is currently a research scientist and is studying how the matrix receptor syndecan regulates basement membrane properties. Outside of the lab, he enjoys raising chickens, yoga, and live music.
