Profile Image Dr. Francis John Troyan is Professor of Multilingual Language Education and Critical Transformative Education at The Ohio State University, where he teaches in the Bilingual, TESOL, and World Language Education programs, as well as the online Graduate Certificate Program in Core Practices in World Language Education. His teaching and research focus on assessment, language teacher education, language teacher identities and ideologies, and genre-based approaches to instruction and assessment in language education. He received the 2022 Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education and the 2018 Northeast Conference Stephen A. Freeman Award for Best Published Article on Teaching Techniques. He is co-editor of Foreign Language Annals.
Profile Image Galal Walker, Professor Emeritus, OSU Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures and Director, National East Asian Languages Resource Center at The Ohio State University, has served the fields of Chinese language study and the less commonly taught languages in varied capacities. Grants and awards he has received include Chinese: Communicating in the Culture (US Department of Education), Principal Investigator and National Foreign Language Resource Center (US Department of Education), development grant, Defense Language Institute. Selected publications include co-authorship of Chinese: Communicating in the Culture and audio programs for beginning Mandarin; Kaleidoscope. He has written widely on issues related to the less commonly taught languages, including Learning Less Commonly Taught Languages: An Agreement on the Bases for the Training of Teachers (co-authored), OSU Foreign Language Publications; “Design for an Intensive Chinese Curriculum” in Chinese Pedagogy: An Emerging Field, Scott McGinnis, ed.; Foreign Language Annals; Shaping the Future: Challenges and Opportunities (Northeast Conference Reports); The Pedagogy of Performing Another Culture. Walker served as Director of the OSU Midwest US-China Flagship, which provides American students the opportunities to reach the highest levels of proficiency in spoken and written Chinese in the context of Chinese workplaces. In 2003, Walker became the first recipient in the US and the English speaking world to receive the “China Language and Culture Friendship Award,” from the Ministry of Education of China.

吴伟克 Galal Walker教授:康奈尔大学博士,美国俄亥俄州立大学东亚语文系教授,全美东亚语文资源中心主任,俄亥俄州立大学汉语旗舰工程主任,关键语言奖学金项目主任。他创立了“体演文化教学法 (performed culture approach)”,主持出版了多卷本研究教学法专著系列——“通向高级技能之路”丛书。吴伟克在许多全国学术组织及工作机构里任过职,曾任全美语言自学协会会长、全美非普教语言协会指导委员会委员,中文教师协会理事,大学委员会汉语进阶先修课程任务小组成员等。他现任美国中西部美中友好协会会长、国防语言学院理事,同时兼任北师大、贵州师大、武汉大学、四川大学等校名誉教授。鉴于他对中文教育的贡献,2003年他荣获中国教育部颁发给外国人的最高奖项“中国语言文化友谊奖”,成为美国乃至英语世界中第一个获奖者。2010年被青岛市人民政府授予“琴岛奖”。2012年,被全美中文教师协会授予“华尔顿终身成就奖”。2013年,美国现代语言学会为他举办了一个专题讨论,授予他外国语系协会专业杰出服务奖。他是该奖项建立以来,全美中文学者中第一个获奖者。

Profile Image Hongzhi (Veronica) Yang is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney, specialising in language education in the initial teacher education program. Her main research areas include language education, teacher education, technology-assisted language learning, teacher emotion, sociocultural theory, activity theory, and language assessment. She is the author of two academic monographs on English Language Teaching Reform and English Cooperative Learning. She has published 20 journal articles and 6 book chapters in prestigious international journals and books. In terms of language pedagogical innovation, she uses activity theory-based formative line interventions to effectively promote collaborative learning, agency, and cross-cultural language learning. She effectively combines the design of formative intervention and collaborative learning with online learning and AI-assisted learning. These innovations have won the University of Sydney Education Innovation Grants, and their results have been published in first-class academic journals such as System and Clinical Anatomy.

Profile Image Dr. Yan Liu is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and the Director of the Chinese Program at Duke University. She also serves as a board member of the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA), USA. Dr. Liu received her Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition from Carnegie Mellon University in 2013 and has since taught Chinese language courses, interdisciplinary courses, translation and interpretation, and Chinese Sociolinguistics at Duke. Her current research focuses on learning Chinese as an additional language, Chinese language pedagogy, Chinese heritage language education, and interdisciplinary curriculum development. Her research has been presented at national and international conferences and published as journal articles or book chapters. In 2023, she published a textbook titled Modern Chinese for Heritage Beginners: Stories about Us with three other co-authors. Guided by heritage language teaching pedagogy and informed by previous research on Chinese heritage language learning, this textbook aims to inspire Chinese heritage language learners to reflect on their identities, explore Chinese American history, and embrace their cultural heritage.

Profile Image Mari NODA is Professor Emerita of Japanese at the Ohio State University, where she founded SPEAC (Summer Program East Asian Concentration), an intensive summer program. A specialist in East Asian language pedagogy, Noda is primarily interested in curriculum, material development, and teacher training. She has worked for ALLEX Foundation and its predecessor, Exchange: Japan, to train teachers of Japanese and Chinese since 1988. She is coauthor (with Pat Wetzel, Ginger Marcus, Stephen Luft, Shinsuke Tsuchiya, and Masayuki Itomitsu) of NihonGO NOW! (2020-2021), a Routledge series to support college-level Japanese programs. This follows a best-selling series Japanese: The Spoken Language with Eleanor H. Jorden (Yale University Press 1987-1990). Since her retirement in 2023, she has worked as interim Executive Director of the Japan-America Association of Central Ohio.

野田真理(Mari Noda),美国俄亥俄州立大学东亚语言文学系教授,体演文化教学法的联合创始人。曾担任俄亥俄州立大学语言强化项目(SPEAC)主任,俄亥俄中央日美协会董事会董事。野田真理教授拥有丰富的课堂教学经验,多年来致力于课程设置、教材编写与语言测试的研究。她将体演文化教学法运用于日语学习材料的开发,编写多媒体新型教材《NihonGO NOW!》。她的主要论文包括《作为社会活动的阅读》《记忆未来:积累异国文化知识》、《体演文化:留学项目中的文化收获类编》等。此外,野田真理教授与康奈尔大学的伊丽诺·乔登教授共同编写的《Japanese: The Spoken Language》和《Japanese: The Written Language》是美国最具影响力的日文教材之一,广泛应用于美国高校和语言学习项目中。

Profile Image Peiru Tong has been an associate professor (research fellow) at the School of International Education, Wuhan University, China, since 2023. Previously, she was a lecturer at the Institute of Education Sciences at the same university from 2020 to 2023. She earned her PhD in 2019 from the School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Sydney (USYD), Australia. Between 2014 and 2020, she served as a tutor and research assistant in the Department of Chinese Studies at USYD. Dr. Tong’s research interests include the internationalisation of higher education, intercultural education, comparative education, study abroad, multilingual education, teaching Chinese as an additional language, and technology-mediated language learning. Her works include the co-authored book Learning Chinese in a Multilingual Space: An Ecological Perspective on Study Abroad (Springer, 2022) and the translation of Measuring Up in Higher Education, currently under review by Social Sciences Academic Press. She has also published in SSCI journals including the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, Frontiers in Psychology, Computer Assisted Language Learning, Instructional Science, System, Teachers and Teaching, The Asia-Pacific Education Researcher and the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development. Dr. Tong has been the principal investigator on several research projects, including the National Education Science Planning Youth Project and the Ministry of Education’s Sino-Foreign Language Cooperation Center Project.

Profile Image Professor Kevin W. H. Tai is Assistant Professor of Language and Literacy Education and Co-Director of the Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education at the Faculty of Education in The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was recently awarded the RGC Early Career Award in 2023/24 from the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, the University Research Output Prize, the Faculty Outstanding Young Researcher Award, and the Faculty Early Career Research Output Award from HKU for recognizing his excellent achievements in research. In relation to his editorial positions, Kevin Tai is the Editor of The Language Learning Journal (ESCI-listed Journal; Routledge), Assistant Editor of the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism (SSCI-listed Journal; Routledge), and Executive Guest Editor of Learning and Instruction (SSCI-listed Journal; Elsevier). His research interests include translanguaging in multilingual contexts, classroom discourse, language education policy, and qualitative research methods (particularly Multimodal Conversation Analysis, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, and Linguistic Ethnography). Kevin Tai is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Profile Image Xin Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Chinese and Intercultural Communication at Duke Kunshan University, Assistant Director Language and Culture Center where she coordinates the Chinese Program. Her research lies at the intersection of applied linguistics, language pedagogy, and intercultural communication with a focus on how multilinguals negotiate identities and socialize into globalized workplaces and educational contexts. She has directed intensive study-abroad Chinese programs including the Critical Language Scholarship program, and has received awards for her projects from Chinese Language Teachers Association (USA), Five Colleges of Ohio Consortium, National Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Association(USA) and National Council of Less Commonly Taught Language (USA). She is the co-author of Perform Guangzhou: A Course in Intermediate to Advanced Spoken Mandarin(2019), and co-editor of The Third Space and Chinese Language Pedagogy(2021).

Profile Image Zhenjie Weng is an Assistant Professor of English Language in the Language and Culture Center at Duke Kunshan University in China. Her specializations include second, foreign, and multilingual language education, and her research primarily focuses on language teacher identity, emotion, agency, and expertise. Specifically, she examines the interplay among these concepts through an ecological perspective. Her work has been featured in leading academic journals such as System, TESOL Quarterly, Language Teaching Research, ELT Journal, Foreign Language Annals, TESOL Journal, International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, and Teaching in Higher Education. Beyond her scholarly research, she has a keen interest in language teacher education and professional development. She has facilitated numerous virtual professional development sessions for language teachers globally and has authored handbooks on language teaching.
