      In case of emergency, students should notify the following: 

      1. Local authorities (if appropriate) 
      2. On-site program director. If unavailable, contact the Office of Global Health and Safety 24/7 Emergency Line at (919) 452-9546 (accepts calls, texts, and WhatsApp).  
      3. Their families 
         

      The on-site program director will initiate Duke emergency protocols by notifying Duke’s Global Education Office (GEO) about the emergency.

The U.S. Government may be able to assist U.S. citizens having trouble overseas. Information about these services can be found on the U.S. State Department’s website at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/emergencies.html 

If family members or guardians need to contact GEO, they should call 919-684-2174 during business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time). After hours and on weekends, they should contact the on-call Office of Global Health and Safety at (919) 452-9646 only in emergency situations.
