The FOB engagement runs during one calendar year, with student Fellows serving on the board January-December. The application window for nonprofit partners and student fellows take place over the summer/fall to lead up to that January start. The calendar generally follows this cycle:
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| June - September | Nonprofits apply to participate in FOB. Participation confirmed in September so a full list of potential matches can be shared with student applicants. |
| September - October | Student application and interview process. |
| November | Nonprofit/Student Fellow matching decisions announced. |
| November | Separate program orientations for nonprofits (virtual) and students (in person) |
| December | Nonprofits asked to provide orientation materials. Students asked to schedule an introductory meeting with Board Mentors/Key Staff. |
| January | Students attend training at Fuqua, begin attending board and/or committee meetings with their nonprofit, and scope their project. |
| January - December | Students continue attending training sessions at Fuqua, attending regular board and committee meetings, and work on their project. (Students will conduct internship over the summer and may not be able to engage during that time) |
| November/December | Students finalize project, present to peers at Fuqua, and conclude their board service. |
Note: No official FOB activities are scheduled during the students’ Winter (mid-December to mid-January) and Summer breaks (May – August). During the summer break, students are engaged in summer internships, but are encouraged to stay engaged remotely as able or relevant. The program ends in December.
