The Durham Ronald McDonald House is located between East and West campuses at 506 Alexander Avenue. To get there from DUSON, there are two options. The long, scenic way: Walk through Duke South, into the quad and down Campus Drive. After you pass the Rubenstein Arts Center, look for Alexander Ave. The shorter alternative (not as scenic) is to take Erwin or Yearby through Central Campus, then turn right on Alexander Ave. Either way, look for the statue of Ronald McDonald.
The Durham Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable bed and home-cooked meals for families whose children are undergoing treatment at Duke Hospital. It also provides a much needed support network for families who are facing similar circumstances. Most importantly, it allows Mom and Dad to remain close to their child as they face perhaps the toughest challenge of their young lives. The Durham Ronald McDonald house accepts volunteers as well as monetary donations for their programs.
