The Languages Building on a bright summer day.
Built in 1929 on the original Abele Quad, this building houses the departments of Romance Studies and Slavic & Eurasian Studies. Check out the doorway when you stroll by. Following the design of all of the original Duke West Campus buildings, there is a carving on the front entry showing its original purpose. In this case, you’ll see the scales of justice just above the entryway, indicating that this was the original Duke Law School.
It’s an easy walk from the DUSON campus. Just walk through Duke South to the Davison Building, enter the Abele Quad on West Campus and walk toward the library. The Languages Building is on the right before you reach Perkins.
