August 26, 2023: Pride pool party! Kicked off Pride month in Durham with our annual pool party celebration.

May 17, 2023: LGBTQ+ Health Workshop. DukeMed Pride hosted its annual student-created and facilitated workshop on working with sexual and gender diverse patients and navigating LGBTQ+ health as a medical student

April 10, 2023: History of Medicine x DukeMed Pride Collaboration. DukeMed Pride and History of Medicine partnered to hold a lunchtime event on the history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic at Duke. Speakers Dr. John Bartlett, one of the physicians that founded the first HIV clinic at Duke in 1989, and Dr. Jeff Baker, who worked on a documentary on local disparities to accessing care during the early HIV/AIDS epidemic will chat about what it was like to treat HIV patients at Duke and in Durham in the 80’s and 90’s, and the stigma, uncertainty, and marginalization of patients receiving care.

April 1, 2023: Pride welcomed prospective students for Second Look Weekend!

March 8, 2023: T-Shirt Decorating Day. We held a tie dye and pride gear decorating event where participants decorated DukeMed Pride shirts to wear to future events!

October 28, 2022: DukeMed Pride co-hosted our annual Halloween costume ball, drag show, and fundraiser supporting the LGBTQ+ Center of Durham

September 24, 2022: DukeMed Pride participated in the Durham Pride parade alongside the Duke Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity

September 8, 2022: Welcome party for new students to start the school year

October 28, 2021: Witch, Please! A Halloween costume ball, drag show, and fundraiser supporting Safe Schools NC. Hosted by DukeMed Pride, OutLaw, and Fuqua Pride.

September 18, 2021: Mixer with DukeMed Pride, OutLaw, and Fuqua Pride!

March 4, 2021: Trans and Gender Expansive Healthcare Panel. Panel members include expert multidisciplinary health care team providing gender affirming health services at Duke.

October 27, 2020: Workshop on Anti-Racism in the Queer Community. With support from GPSC, Duke Med Pride hosted Build from the Heart as they lead a workshop that examines how racism manifests in the queer community and what steps can be taken to be an actively anti-racist member of the community.

October 9-11, 2020: DukeMed Virtual 5k. Co-hosted with LMSA to raise money for El Centro Hispaño: LGBTQ Services.

Sept 23, 2020: Queer arts night! Virtual event from our Queer Arts Coordinator where we dropped off embroidery kits at participants houses so we could spend a night embroidering our own Pride gear together over Zoom.

March 4, 2020: co-hosted an event on fat stigma in healthcare with Student National Medical Association, the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association, Duke Med for Social Justice, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, and the Graduate and Professional Student Council.

December 14, 2019: Pride Pizza Pre-game — had pizza at Pie Pushers before going to the drag show at Pinhook

December 12, 2019: DukeMed Pride hosted a workshop for first year medical and physical therapy students on serving sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients. The workshop includes review of identities and definitions, building and practicing communication skills, talking with several experienced providers, and discussing resources at Duke and in Durham for LGBTQIA+ folks.

September 28, 2019: Attended the Durham Pride Parade and marched with the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity

August 17, 2019: Pride Pool Party at Unscripted Hotel to kick off the new academic year!

August 15, 2019: Pronoun Pin Pop-Up — distributed pronoun pins to the rising second years as they began rotations

May 22, 2019: Co-hosted a Blue Table Talk on intersectionality & toxic masculinity with the Student National Medical Association

May 2-4, 2019: Attended the 2019 BNGAP LGBT Health Workforce Conference in NYC

February 13, 2019: Co-hosted a Valentine’s Day Card Making Event with the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity

December 4, 2018: Screening of the film Kiki, a 2016 documentary on the LGBTQ youth of color constituting New York’s ballroom scene. This event is the kickoff for our fall clothing drive to collect clothing donations for the LGBTQ Center of Durham’s Trans and Gender Nonconforming Clothing Closet.

November 19, 2018: DukeMed Pride hosted a workshop for MS1’s on serving LGBTQIA+ patients on the wards. The workshop includes building and practicing communication skills, talking with several experienced providers, and reviewing resources at Duke and in Durham for LGBTQIA+ folks.

September 29, 2018: Attended the Durham Pride Parade with Duke Med for Social Justice
