New year, new streaming recs. Check out the best movies coming out on the biggest streaming services for February 2021!

Sofia: Malcolm & Marie (2021)

Coming to Netflix on February 5th, Malcolm & Marie stars acclaimed actors John David Washington and Zendaya as the titular protagonists. The movie centers around a filmmaker and his girlfriend and delves into their relationship. It solely revolves around this couple and the emotional tensions that arise between them. What makes this movie stand out is that it’s the first feature to be entirely written, directed, filmed, and produced during the COVID-19 pandemic, making cinematic history.

The movie is directed and written by Sam Levinson, the creator and director of HBO MAX’s hit show Euphoria. Since I’m a big fan of the show, I’m excited to see his new film and will hopefully love it just as much as Euphoria. I’m also excited by the sheer look of the movie. It’s shot in black and white and has stunning cinematography done by Marcell Rév, who is also the cinematographer of Euphoria.

Check it out on February 5th!

Olivia: Space Sweepers (2021)

Space Sweepers is an upcoming South Korean space opera film directed by Jo Sung-hee. The film follows the crew of spaceship Victory: a space pilot, an ex space pirate, a spaceship engineer, and a military robot. Journeying through a hostile environment, the ragtag crew survives off what debris they can salvage from other ships, and after snatching one said ship during a debris chase, all are shocked to find a 7-year-old girl inside. With stunning visuals and echoes of 2002’s cult adventure series Firefly, sci-fi fans have much to look forward to. Switch by Netflix on February 5th to check it out.

Gabriel: American Psycho (2000)

American Psycho is out on Hulu starting February 1st. A chilling look at a cold corporate world, American Psycho is just as relevant now as its initial release in 2000. Christian Bale delivers one of the best cinematic performances of all time as Patrick Bateman, a wealthy New York investment banking executive with a psychopathic side that he hides from his coworkers. The film has an incredibly eerie quality to it as if Patrick is willingly letting you peer into his mind. A classic that is well worth the watch if you haven’t seen it already.

Harry: Tom & Jerry (2021)

Relive your childhood with this brand new film of the beloved Tom and Jerry franchise. As one of the best cartoon series ever made, Tom and Jerry brought joy and laughs to audiences for 81 years. This year, Tom and Jerry return for a brand new adventure in New York City. The movie will be the first feature film of the series after 1992’s Tom and Jerry: The Movie and will star Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, and Duke alum Ken Jeong. Tom & Jerry will be enjoyable for both nostalgic and new fans.

Make sure to check it out in theaters and HBO Max on February 26, 2021!
