This site was originally created as part of a seminar on “The Black Atlantic” taught by Professors Ian Baucom and Laurent Dubois at Duke University during the Spring of 2014. Students in the class developed a series of “Deeps” — collaborative research papers on a range of topics — that are posted here. Click here to see the readings syllabus for this course.
In the Spring of 2018, a new group of students in a course taught by Laurent Dubois will be posting writings about a Duke Performances series on The Black Atlantic on this blog.
WOW- how I wish I were taking this class! I am the author of “Queen Mother” a book that provides a powerful, hopeful and uplifting alternative to the finality of the Middle Passage.
