Duke Hospital Surgical Waiting Rooms Volunteer 

  • Guided patients and visitors into and out of Pre-Operative and Post-Operative holding areas
  • Transported visitors from Duke Hospital to Duke Medicine Pavilion and back based on location of surgery
  • Updated families of patients on schedule of surgery (scheduled time, delays, progress)
  • Provided directions to various hospital locations for visitors

DukeEngage Uganda-Engineering World Health

  • 4 weeks of instruction by international biomedical engineering professionals on how to troubleshoot, repair, and train users on 27 types of medical equipment
    • Repaired unusable or broken medical equipment at Makerere University and Mulago National Referral Hospital
  • 4 weeks of placement at Kamuli District Hospital in Kamuli, Uganda to repair broken medical equipment and perform user training
    • Direct interaction with hospital staff and patients
    • As secondary project, raised over $1200 on GoFundMe for construction of wheelchair accessible ramp, portable generator shed for NICU, and two attendants’ shelters

Duke Eye Center Volunteer

  • Helped potential donors register to Donate Life NC for eye tissue donation to the Duke BioSight Research Program
  • Provided company for patients and their families at the glaucoma and retina waiting areas
  • Worked in the BioSight laboratory to identify donated eye tissue and maintain records of donations

Duke COVID Social Support Program Volunteer

  • Sent 200+ authorized referrals using Unite Us to appropriate community-based organization for clients in Durham, Vance, and Granville counties isolating due to COVID
    • Connected clients to services for food, monetary relief, COVID supplies, medication delivery, etc.
  • Tracked status of referrals to ensure services were delivered to those who deserved them
  • Aimed to decrease the number of people breaking isolation due to lack of resources and slow the spread of COVID-19
