        • Son Le and coworkers discovered the structural basis of TMEM16A channel desensitization. Son not only verified PIP2 is the key factor for TMEM16A desensitization, identified a putative PIP2 binding site, but also discovered a modular design of the TMEM16A ion permeation pore, which consists of two relatively independent modules: the Ca2+ binding module is dedicated to Ca2+ activation and the regulatory module is responsible for PIP2 regulation. The work was published in Nat. Commun. Good job. Congrats! 08/2019.

        • Trieu Le and coworkers discovered an activation gate for TMEM16 phospholipid scramblase that controls phospholipid transport. This gate seems to be conserved within the TMEM16 family. Amazingly, a single mutation at the gate can convert a TMEM16A chloride channel to a scramblase. The paper was published in Nat. Commun. Nice job, congrats! 04/19.
