About

As the impacts and influences of digital technologies continue to multiply around the world, social media has become a core resource for information creation and dissemination as a well as an object that, itself, is intrinsically worthy of study. This has led to a rapid increase in the number of projects and efforts around Duke that are, in various ways, linked with social media. However, work related to social media — classes, scholarship, content creation, policy discussions, and more — is scattered across campus.

Social Media Studies @ Duke (SMS) was created to help connect campus-wide efforts related to social media. It serves as a hub and resource center for students, faculty, and staff who are interested in exploring, studying, and leveraging social media in their work and lives. In addition, SMS is also interested and supporting new projects and programs related to social media from any member of the Duke community.
