Hello! I am Sadhana, and I am a second-year undergraduate student at Duke University studying neuroscience. Help Desk and specifically the role as a community resource navigator stood out to me among the breadth of opportunities available at Duke due to its emphasis on the intersection between health outcomes and social determinants. As an aspiring health professional, I recognize the value in holistic care and not limiting the definition of “health” to tangible medical discrepancies; Help Desk directly works to reinforce these ideas and provide support to the Durham community. Through Help Desk, I also look forward to increasing my own awareness of the social determinants of health and escaping the notorious Duke bubble in a way that prepares me for my future career. Other than Help Desk, some of my passions and extracurriculars involve refugee work, campus concert planning, painting, and Duke Basketball. Following my time at Duke, I hope to conduct medical research through a lab to learn more about neurodegenerative diseases.
