As an aspiring medical student, I’ve always wondered about the other aspects that contribute to a person’s wellbeing other than the direct quality of medical care and how those aspects can be controlled to better human health. Duke has given me the opportunity to explore this conundrum through my coursework and experiential learning in the areas of both my global health and biology degrees. As such, being a part of the Help Desk team allows me to bring more clarity to the myriad of factors that affect human health and allows me to better understand the conditions and population of Durham. As a part of the team I am excited to further explore and develop my interests in the social determinants of health, high value healthcare, as well as the biological decisions behind health policy. I look forward to interacting with patients of the Lincoln Community Health Center and using the experience to further my understanding of the healthcare field.
