Growing up in Baltimore, I was exposed to drastic health disparities rooted in socioeconomic inequality and became passionate about improving health outcomes in medically underserved communities like my own. To accomplish this, the social determinants of health need to be addressed as the root cause in addition to the healthcare system itself. With Help Desk, each of my patient encounters and phone calls allowed patients to take charge of their health outside of the clinical environment. As a Health Policy Liaison on the executive team, I hope to apply the larger context of health policy in North Carolina on an individual level, further enabling patients to access the resources necessary to address their needs.
