The patient-centered approach at Help Desk is special because the volunteers learn individualized narratives while we aim to motivate the patient and elicit a positive outlook on their own wellbeing. I can say without hesitation that this past year of volunteering with Help Desk, and even more so now transitioning into the role of Program Coordinator, has been the most meaningful experience I have had as a Duke student so far.
