Responsibilities include event planning, helping with event logistics, attending OutLaw board meetings, and helping OutLaw further its mission of creating community and empowering LGBTQ+ law students on campus. All 1Ls and LLMs are encouraged to apply!

Applications are due September 22, 2020 at 11:50 p.m. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at edward.l.gonzales@duke.edu.

The Convergence of Movements to Abolish ICE and Defund the Police

September 23 @ 12:30 pm EST/ 9:30 am PST

Link: https://duke.zoom.us/j/3228312874

Moderator: Kate Evans (Duke Clinical Professor)

At the heart of both Abolish ICE and Defund the Police is a conversion about who is incarcerated and criminalized. The movements share the belief that regardless of the badge, bad law enforcement practices and policies affect the safety and wellbeing of people across the United States. Join us for a discussion on the increasingly intersecting coalitions between the movements and their impact in reframing the conversation around criminal justice reform.

Sponsors: Immigrant Rights Clinic & Duke Immigrant and Refugee Project.

Co-Sponsored: Black Law Students Association, Latin American Law Students Association, Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, Middle Eastern and North African Law Students Association, Womxn of Color Collective, American Civil Liberties Union, National Lawyers Guild, OutLaw, and Human Rights Law Society.
