Alyssa Reyes is a 2L from Los Angeles, California. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Media Studies and earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from Hunter College. Prior to law school, she was a math and special education teacher in New York City. She has also worked for Apple, Inc. and the University of Southern California Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. In addition to LALSA, Alyssa is involved in OutLaw, where she serves as Vice President. This summer, she worked as a legal intern with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in Los Angeles. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys hiking, yoga, and cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Nicole De Brigard is a 2L from Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2020 with degrees in Political Science & Criminology. In addition to LALSA, she is involved in Duke’s Racial Equity and Advisory Council, the Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law, LEAD Fellows, First-Generation Professionals, and Duke Law Tour Guides. This past summer, she was an Honors Intern at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In her free time, Nicole loves to run, work out, hike, and chismosear.

Taliah Rodriguez is a 2L from Orlando, FL. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2020 where she double-majored in Criminology and Political Science, and minored in Spanish. Prior to law school, Taliah studied abroad in Valencia, Spain for a summer, and she used to work at Walt Disney World. In addition to LALSA, Taliah is involved in 1GP, where she serves as Vice President of Professional Development, and the Duke Law Wrongful Convictions Clinic, where she is a student-attorney. Last summer, she worked at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York. In her free time, Taliah enjoys going to the movies, working out, and laying poolside with a good book.

Lee Garza (they/him) is from Stafford, Virginia. They graduated from Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus in 2020, with a degree in Philosophy and a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. They are also active in OutLaw, plays flute, and enjoys jogging. This past summer, Lee was a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Denny Chin of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. They will work in New York City next summer.

Kaylin Portillo Chavez is a 2L from Fresno, California. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and a minor in History. In her free time, Kaylin loves to paint, watch Broadway shows, and play softball. This past summer, she worked as a summer associate at Haynes Boone in Dallas. She will be returning to Dallas next summer and will be working at Gibson Dunn.
Gabe Berumen is a 2L from Merced, California. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in History. Prior to law school, he was involved in various immigration law organizations where he specialized in aiding asylum-seekers and refugees. This past summer, Gabe worked with a California Public Defender’s Office, and was a Research Assistant for Dean Kerry Abrams and the Wilson Center for Science and Justice. In his spare time, Gabe likes to bike, visit historical sites, and embarrass his nephews by using outdated slang.
Lauren Hernandez is a 2L from Denver, Colorado. She went to undergrad at Regis University and majored in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. Lauren played softball and was on student government at Regis. Before law school, she worked in higher education for two years. Last summer, Lauren worked as a Diversity Fellow at Cooley in Colorado. Lauren is also the Mentorship Chair for the Woman of Color Collective at Duke. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, going to baseball games, and spending time with her family.
Arturo Nava is a 3L from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Harvard College in 2016 with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Government. After college he spent three years working as a qualitative analyst at a public policy research firm in Boston. This past summer, he was a summer law clerk with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Arturo is also an active member of Duke’s First-Generation Professionals and Duke OutLaw. In his free time he enjoys group fitness classes, playing a pickup game of volleyball or softball, and searching for the best taqueros in the Triangle!
