PRESIDENT

Alexandra (Ale) Gómez (she/her) is a 2L Miami native born to Cuban immigrant parents. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2021 with majors in English and Criminology. This past summer she worked at Fenwick & West NY as a litigation associate (though she tried her hand at a couple of M&A deals). At Duke, Ale is active in the Hispanic/Latinx community,  serves on the Duke Law Journal, competes on the DukeMock Trial Board, and volunteers with the Duke Innocence Project. When not in the library, Ale can most often be found (1) outrunning her stress on Al Buheler trail (2) obnoxiously cheering for Duke basketball (3) swinging her yellow hydro flask while she spends too long at Wegman’s deciding what she’s cooking this week.

VICE PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Valeria Chávez (she/her) is a 2L from Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2021 with degrees in Sociology and Gender & Sexuality Studies. In addition to LALSA, she is involved in OutLaw, Transactional Law Society, Coalition Against Gendered Violence, and Veterans Assistance Project. This past summer, she was a 1L LCLD Scholar in Miami at both Hunton Andrews Kurth and Banco Santander. In her free time, Valeria loves to box, color code her closet, and chismosear.

VICE PRESIDENT OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS

Manuel (Manu) Alvarez (he/him) is a 2L originally from Santiago, Chile who now calls Tampa, FL his home. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 2019, majoring in Political Science and Government. This past summer, he worked as a summer associate at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings in their Tampa Office. Next summer, he will work as a summer associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett’s New York office. At Duke Law, he is also involved in the Transactional Law Society, intramural sports, the Duke Immigrant and Refugee Project, Business Law Society, and Health Law Society. In his free time, Manuel enjoys playing soccer and weightlifting.

VICE PRESIDENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Atzin Villarreal Sosa (he/him) is a 2L from Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Williams College in 2019 with a degree in Political Economy. Prior to law school, he worked at M&T Bank in their Regulatory Affairs and Capital Adequacy Department. This past summer, he was a 1L Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholar for McGuireWoods and Reynolds Consumer Products in Chicago. He will be returning to Chicago next summer and will be working at Sidley Austin. In his free time, Atzin enjoys staying active, building Legos, hosting barbecues, and supporting the White Sox, Bulls, and Bills.

VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE

Christopher (Chris) Fults (he/him) is a 2L from Riverside, California. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science and a minor in History. Outside of LALSA, Chris is involved in OutLaw and First Generation Professionals. This past summer, he worked at Georgetown’s Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic. In his free time, Chris loves to hike and go to the beach.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Marianne Salas (she/they) is a 2L from El Paso, Texas/Anthony, New Mexico. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 2020. This summer, Marianne interned at the Environmental Defense Fund in Washington, D.C., focusing on environmental litigation and regulatory work. After graduation, she plans to pursue similar work in the federal government or public interest sector. They are also involved in the Environmental Law Society, Government and Public Service Society, and OutLaw. Marianne played competitive softball for 10 years and is excited for LALSA to dominate this fall in intramural softball.

2L REPRESENTATIVE

George Khoury (he/him) is the son of Cuban and Middle Eastern immigrants and is originally from Los Angeles, California. During his first summer, George externed for Chief Judge Philip S. Gutierrez of the Central District of California. On campus, he is also a 2L representative for the Middle Eastern and North African Law Student Association (MENALSA), the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) Director for the Government and Public Service Society (GPS), and a staff editor on the Duke Law Journal. George’s favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda and his least favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda 2; he is neutral on Kung Fu Panda 3.

Alyssa Reyes (she/her) is a 3L from Los Angeles, California. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Media Studies and earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Hunter College. Prior to law school, she was a math and special education teacher in New York City. She has also worked for Apple, Inc. and the University of Southern California Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. In addition to LALSA, Alyssa is involved in OutLaw, where she previously served as Vice President. This past summer, she worked as a summer associate for Nossaman LLP in Los Angeles. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys hiking, yoga, and cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
